An Invitation: Singapore National Poetry Festival 2015

The Singapore National Poetry Festival (NPF) will run from July 24 to 26, 2015 at the LASALLE College of the Arts at 1 McNally Street, Singapore 187940.

Attend a preview of the NPF this weekend at Dhoby Ghaut:

1. Poetry Readings with Aaron Lee, Heng Siok Tian, Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé, yours truly and other published poets in English, Chinese or Tamil.

Date & Venue: 16 May (Saturday) 6pm to 7.30pm @ Dhoby Ghaut Green Amphitheatre

2. Poetry Readings featuring Word Jamm and spoken word poets.

Date & Venue: 17 May (Sunday) 4.30pm to 6pm @ Dhoby Ghaut Green Gravel Area

The NPF offers a weekend programme of keynote addresses, displays of poetry and interpretations in the other arts, workshops, a symposium and readings by both established as well as emerging poets. Among the NPF’s organizers are Cultural Medallion winner and frequent visitor to the Philippines Edwin Thumboo, Singapore-Filipino anthology Love Gathers All editor Aaron Lee, Filipino poet Eric Tinsay Valles, other poets as well as educators from Tanjong Katong Secondary School, National Junior College, LASALLE College of the Arts, Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore.

The NPF aims to promote literary excellence in a multilingual, multicultural, multi-generational setting for both poets and poetry enthusiasts. Festival admission is free of charge. Youth-targeted activities include level-specific readings, workshops, and the launch of a printed anthology of the winning submissions to the Singapore National Poetry Competition.

The related Singapore National Poetry Competition has received the first entries. Do submit your work before the deadline on May 29. Winning poems will be published in an anthology, displayed on public walls and read at a festival showcase. The winners will receive books and poetry-linked gift prizes.
